Sometimes you just need a little seawall...

I find it kind of ironic that for our evening constitutional today, we all had to drive out to West Van for that leisurely walk. Which says nothing for our own neighbourhoods, which are also no-doubt tree-lined and somewhat spacious, specked with the odd bit of park land and its own pleasantries...

No, we had to cross a bridge (or two, for some people) to spend an hour or so walking, talking, and coming across things to laugh at. So what is this, destination walking? What's up with that??

It means that a.), our respective neighbourhoods are BORING, with no well-travelled footpaths other than sidewalks, and no little cafes or bars in which to stumble into... but on second thought... that's not true - there's a few parks nearby - nice ones, too, with ponds and ducks and everything! And there are footpaths... and Starbucks...

So then it must be b.), we just don't appreciate our own neighbourhoods and often would rather travel further to experience someplace else and gaze wistfully at the waterfront properties and imagine one's self taking the Aquabus on Saturday mornings and buying groceries at Granville Island Market. Yeah. No one I know does that on a regular basis. (Another "what's up with that??" pondering).

But then again, as one of my fair colleagues opined, "I just wanted some water." It could be c.), sometimes you just need a seawall. Because we live in Vancouver and we have one. And come hell or high water, or traffic congestion, we are going to take advantage of it, dagnabbit!

The trouble with the travel bug...

... is that all of a sudden you want to go everywhere and see everything... after a week on the open road my focus is on my next 'vacation' in which I actually do get my ass to England and not flake out like I've done on more than one occasion. September. Barring any new job offers or medical emergencies.

I am trying to convince Awhore to abandon the Dubai plans for something cheaper/shorter/European... like Malta, Santorini, any Greek Island for that matter, Turkey, Budapest... the list is endless, and I only have 2 weeks!! (At least 5 days of which should be in jolly old England going crazy in Oxford Circus.)

Gaaah!

Ah, yes, more photos popping up... this is Dwight, the guy that fixed our flat tire in Saskatoon for free, out of the goodness of his heart:

then, there was that barn just outside Moose Jaw...

and alas, a rainbow in the valley between Lake Louise and Banff:

Re: THIS IS CRAP

Fri! Move out of freakin' China! would be my first suggestion. Second suggestion would be for me to e-mail you my updates... which I would gladly do... usually for a nominal fee but since you're a good friend I'll waive it... *muah*

This week in the life of Teresa: not much. Helping with sanding down walls, taping up baseboards, painting, and making 'helpful' suggestions in regards to caulking and filler for a certain person's renovation project. Exciting, karmic stuff. Although I've missed/forgotten to take my mom to Costco three days in a row, she can't be happy about that. D'oh.

Road Trip Pics & Other Miscellaneous Photos

Officially sanctioned ROAD TRIP 2004 photos can be found here.

I got London Drugs to burn the regular film photos to CD and with that, got free posting on the internet for 30 days. There were 8 rolls I got developed... one of them is Niko's for some reason (Niko, I told you that wasn't my roll!!), and a couple other rolls are family fun from Mother's Day last year... or some family birthday... or something. The other roll is from my lomo camera, pics taken sometime last year. Check out the lot of them here.

Barring any sorting out I have to do, I feel rather accomplished to have them available already. Yay, me!

A funny thing happened on the way...

...home, as it were. Niko and I kept noticing funny things along the way that we found amusing - like the signs for "Seldom Seen" and "Yellow Brick" Road off the highway, and the second we drove through the municipal boundaries of Pearl, ON, the Badly Drawn Boy track "Another Pearl" came on. Mere coincidences or products of deranged imaginations from staring at the road ahead for too long?

In Edmonton we stayed with Tony, and visited West Edmonton Mall. As a mall itself it didn't seem that huge or exciting, although flanked with an amusement park and water park does add to the impressiveness factor. Oh, and the Pirate-themed atrium and the skating rink. And "Bourbon Street" and "Chinatown"... we did have lunch at Julio's Barrio, but no drinks at Sherlock's. Were tempted to try Hooters but no one was adamant about going. D'oh.

Later that evening Niko and I hit the town, e.g. Whyte Avenue. We went to a place called Milan's, supposedly an eastern-European cuisine kind of place but on the menu they had a curry chicken pasta. And pizza dishes. I had a chicken breast with paprika and Niko had the house specialty steak Tartare, which I didn't know was served raw with garlic and slices of toast. Interesting. Nightlife on Whyte Ave. was very young. Almost got smoked by crazy drivers and kept catching up to a gang of RX-8 drivers.

Saturday we left Edmonton for the Banff/Lake Louise area. This is where we saw the most amount of wildlife. Bighorn sheep, deer, moose, little chipmunks. No bears. We stayed at Hostelling Int'l in Lake Louise, and wouldn't ya know, the room cost was more than what we'd paid for in the motels we'd stayed at previously. A hostel. WTF!! Well, it was a pretty nice hostel, but still.

Sunday we left Lake Louise to head home. I was surprised at how quickly we got home - left Lake Louise around 9:30, got home at 5:00... and that was with the annoying traffic on Hwy 1 before the Port Mann Bridge.

Working on a page for the road trip pics. There aren't many digital pics I took, like 30 in all. Niko was all digital, except with his lomographs. Anyway hopefully that will be up soon and you will enjoy.

I am home now. Gotta save up for trip to England.

Greetings from the road...

i am logging in from tony's in edmonton, we arrived last night around 9 after driving from brandon, mb, through to regina, moose jaw, saskatoon, and lloydminster. and that was just thursday. so far during this trip we have:

1. not seen any Dead Sea Scrolls
2. brought the rain from Vancouver to Ontario (ironic, I know)
3. drank countless cups of Tim Ho's coffee
4. stayed at a former uranium mining town
5. not fallen asleep at the wheel
6. taken pictures of windblown buildings
7. seen moose (2)
8. seen deer (2)
9. scared deer off the road (twice)
10. got a speeding ticket (niko)
11. got a flat tire in saskatoon (fixed for free!!)

it took us two days to get out of ontario. we cheered when we crossed the ontario-manitoba border. the province borders don't have much fanfare to them, which is such a shame. we passed through the canadian shield which was cold and still had snow. we drove through the prairies yesterday and the roads are straight and wide, and you know, it's not as flat as everyone says. there is a lot of hills. just with nothing on it. er, low growing plants.

anywho, off to West Edmonton Mall. Woo hoo!
